OK, it happened. I gave into Gaga mania. The Fame is one of those albums that suddenly hit me. I guess it was the overplaying and mediocre live performances that put me off. But it really is a great pop album. May have to also re-evaluate Born This Way.
Besides The Fame, I've been listening to Adele's 21 a lot, which is also very good.

(5,128 posts)No chance you were gonna duck Gag.
Adele is real good. Maybe SHE can play Janis in one of the two uncast Janis Joplin movies stalled in Hollywood. No doubt her demons can bring the acting to life.
Me? Lately I like headnod shit like Thievery Corporation, Fort Knox Five, Z-Trip.
Still can't get the new Beasties album or Girl Talk out of my changer.

What music have to listened to lately?

I don't have to listen to a thing.

Some new bands that I really like are AWOL Nation, Grouplove, and Volbeat.

(5,128 posts)Thanks for turning me on.
Memorable, angsty, hooky as hell. Perfect. They're goin' places.
Video reminds me a little of Peter Gabriel - Sledgehammer, with a little Island of Misfit Toys thrown in.
BTW, I have been thinking of your tagline all week. Thanks a lot.

(10,624 posts)It would be five stars out of five if only it didn't drag a little in the middle. With a little trimming, this could have been an all-time classic!

(100,063 posts)2 discs, 12 tracks, 1:45 in length and not a dull moment... one of the best of the decade as far as I'm concerned.
The new Dream Theater, Beastie Boys, Jane's Addiction, and Foo Fighters are also in heavy rotation.

(5,311 posts)...as part of the voting process.
It was down to the wire to get the final ballot in, which I did this afternoon.
So, I listened to (and continue to listen to) a bunch of the nominees, to name a few: Yeah, Lady Gaga, along with Foster the People; Death Cab For Cutie; Radiohead; Mumford & Sons; Foo Fighters; Kings of Leon; Skrillex - who are up for several awards, including Best New Artist.
And in the Americana category, upstart Linda Chorney, with her CD "Emotional Jukebox." She's a totally self-produced and self-released, "unknown" indie artist, check her out.
Also nominated in Americana, these other known unknowns you may have heard or not heard of: Ry Cooder, Lucinda Williams, Emmylou Harris and Levon Helm.
The Grammys are not as BigCorporately-controlled as they maybe used to be, IMO. They are definitely not as staid and backward as they were when I became a member 20 years ago.
NARAS now has their own social networking site, Grammy365.com, where members may promote their music and gain support during the whole nominating and voting process. If you're not a member, you may check out the necessary qualifications for joining, and join, if you meet the criteria.
It's not that big of a deal - if you are a serious musician with published music, stuff that's been released and offered for sale to the general public through, something like CDBaby.com, you may qualify for membership.
Disclaimer: If it sounds like I work for NARAS, be assured I do not, I just want more indie artist representation amongst the voting membership.

(2,560 posts)The album is called "Don't stop singing". Sandy's family had some of Sandy's lyrics kicking around but no music to accompany them. They looked around and finally selected Thea. who added the music and vocals. Excellent stuff.
Other stuff: Tull, Waits, McKennitt and Joni Mitchell. Waiting for the new Kate Bush.

(168 posts)my daughter is a huge fan - but I have to say, Gaga has really grown on me. I like her a lot, plus I love her message about loving yourself, and about tolerance.
Adele - not so much. Every time I hear her now I think "Girl, now get over it, stop whining. and move on!" But she's a great artist, no question.
By the way, the new Coldplay album is awesome, imo, could listen to it all day long!

(6,581 posts)For some reason, a couple of the Canadian alternative rock stations that come in here in the Detroit area have been playing a lot of their songs, not just the one track, 'Pumped Up Kicks' that was a minor hit on US radio over the summer. It's rather amusing, because the Canadian stations bleep some of the words that are kind of essential, such as "gun" and "bullet" in Pumped Up Kicks, or "knife" in "Call It What You Want." On Canadian airwaves, you can discuss sex and use profanity, but violent imagery is banned (take a lesson from this us, US!).
I've enjoyed the album. I've also seen the band on a few programs, like SNL and Letterman, and at least they're something different to listen to. Popular music is really in a dry spell these days, IMHO.
