Re: a recent Doonesbury--do women really glow when they're pregnant?

We thought about this when my wife and I came upon an old photo of her while pregnant with our first daughter. The scary thought we had was that the little being growing inside her when this photo was taken (with her parents in Oldenburg) is now as old as she was in this photo. If this pic is any indication, yes they do glow!

I think a lot depends upon just which part of their bladder the future child is kicking at any given moment.

the first trimester.

I, personally, found it hard to glow when I was puking my guts out from morning sickness.

I do not think I ever glowed during my 2 pregancies because I was throwing up morning, noon and night.

I worked as a teacher many years ago and I had a teacher's aide. And she positively glowed. Big smiles all day. Positive and energetic ALL the time - though she was that sort of person anyway. Fantastic experience for me. She was an absolute delight.

Making pregnant women pinker, more swollen, and sweatier. That's the source of the glow.

first it was the morning sickness..... Needless to say, "Ralph" was NOT going to be his name.

Then, when I got to be cetacean in proportions, it was the heartburn. I could drink some water and my gullet would be on FIRE!!

When he finally arrived, I thought he was the most beautiful baby I had ever seen!

and then two years later, I went through similar joy with his sister........

I thought that the physical symptoms of pregnacy really sucked in my case, but it was so worth it! They are the two loves of my life! And now they wonderful caring people , they are all grown up with families of their own. Five beautiful grandchildren. "Grow old along with me, the best is yet to be."

Our two daughters are not yet parents, but they have time if they want to be.

As for growing old, I suppose we'll find the time to get around to that eventually, especially if my wife ever decides to look her age. In this photo, she looks 19, but she was almost 31.
