and this English dude went behind the bar and was messing with the Guinness tap. He poured me one and said it should now taste exactly like it would in Dublin. I couldnt tell there difference, his trick probably didnt change it that much.

I have heard fresh stuff in the UK is way better than the stuff we have here.

When I went to Ireland, it was mainly so that I could sit in a pub and drink Guiness on tap.

not a fan of it in bottles and it is drinkable from a can with one of those squidgit thingies in it.

Have not tried the Guinness black lager but I have had Magic Hat's Black Lager and love that so I'm planning to pick up the Guinness version and see what's up.

I gave someone a drink of my guinness at a party. They felt the widget bobbing around inside and thought somebody put something in my drink. They then (I found out) dumped my 6 pack down the sink to save me from the tainted brew.

At least they were looking out for me.

I got this for my husband, who really likes Guinness and Smithwicks. I was hoping it might be somewhere in between.

Instead, we both decided it didn't have much taste at all.

I love Smithwicks too - and pretty much most stouts I've tried. Guinness is not even high on the list of really strong stouts but it's a damn sight stronger than the average macro-brew that most Americans are used to. (poor bastards).

So maybe they are thinking get the casual user hooked on the training wheels Guinness and then they'll try to trade up at some point....

or maybe I just like building scenarios in my head lol.

Which reminds me, I need to stop and pick up some Bell's Two Hearted Stout....and some Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout....

but after reading the reviews here I would only get one bottle or can of the Guinness...just to try it...

...especially the amber or Oberon. Two Hearted kicked his ass.

Sadly, he was recently diagnosed with celiac, so no more real beer (he can drink sorghum beer and ciders, but they're just not the same).

Man, I never even heard of a black lager before about 2 months ago and now here's 3... Have I just been looking on the wrong aisle..?

edit to ad Oh Yeah, that's what Kostritzer is - it's a really nice black lager but I didn't think of it because it isn't called Black Lager at the German restaurant where I get it. It is a lager but the they just call it blackbier or something like that...I've been going there for years and Kostritzer is a large part of why (the food is only pretty good and the waitresses are mean but it's close to the house and has Kotstritzer.)

...grab it! Herold is a 500-year old Czech brewery, and they make several fantastic beers. The Midnight is good, too. Not sure if they're available in the U.S. any longer, though.
