I-pod keeps seizing at end of chapters in audiobooks. Help!

I have a 2003 i-pod mini or something like that. I have a bunch of audio books. One of them causes the unit to seize needing a reset at the end of every chapter. It only does it in the car, too. On the desktop computer, it works fine. Also, it works fine for other audio books. The memory is not full, but it is about 3/4 full. It does it every single time. By chapters, I mean the breaks in the audio book where you can tab forward and backward. I can't very tab past the break in the unlistened to parts.

What's wrong?

Thanks

Maybe the ending sucks and it's just protecting you from it. HopeHoops Jan 2012 #1

It's unusual, but I've had songs drop out part-way through and syncing again cured the problem. The only thing I can figure is that it didn't transfer the entire file on the previous sync.

The "smart iPod" comment was just a continuation of my comment about the book possibly having a bad ending - it was a joke, even if it wasn't a GOOD one.

I don't know that, in point of fact, and will download the file again when it stops snowing. (Bad weather affects our connection.)

If it is, the first thing to do is sync the iPod with your PC (doesn't require the network). If that doesn't work, then you might have to download it again.

3. Is it a book your ripped or an Audiobooks download?

Or any other vendor's download, of course.

When I rip books from CDs, there is no telling what I'll get. I've had books where every CD had a different naming scheme, so I had to go through and edit every chapter. I've had books where several CDs would have the same internal CD number, even if externally the number was right--I mean the CD would be stamped "Disk 17," but when I ripped the CD it would be labeled as "Disk 5," and would overwrite the previous Disk 5.

So I'm thinking that whatever code is usually used to mark the end of a segment or disk or chapter is in a different format than your IPod recognizes. Or else the code is outright missing.

If it's only the one book, then it's the book, not the IPod, in other words.

I'm assuming, though I realize that could be a wrong assumption, that you mean the book plays fine on the computer version of ITunes but not on the IPod itself. Maybe the computer recognizes whatever the stop is, and the IPod doesn't. If it's an older software on the IPod than the computer, maybe updating the IPod software would work.

If it's a CD rip, it's also possible that ripping it again would help. Maybe something got screwy the first time. I've had that happen.

Just thoughts on the matter.
