Smart or stupid?
I had to get on my son about that nonsense. No need to make all thoughts public.

(21,596 posts)I use Facebook to keep up with my friends and family since most of them live in other states or in other countries.
I never discuss politics, my work or any controversial subjects. Ever.

(12,132 posts)(except when I'm particularly proud of something good they, I or we did - and then it is a very general mention with no names or places) but I still haven't gotten the hang of leaving out religion and politics from my Facebook adventures.
It's particularly difficult because I am FB friends with a lot of my high school classmates. I graduated in 1981 from a very conservative, fundie Baptist-run christian school. I am a liberal atheist. We has fun. lol

(21,596 posts)I'm a very left wing liberal from a very conservative family. So, I usually don't ever discuss politics with them in real life much less online. My friends are mostly quite liberal and many of them or even more left wing than I am. However, I have few old childhood friends who are probably much more conservative than me.
My work involves going before various county and city boards and commissions on behalf of my clients. So, I try to leave politics out of my work. However, I am involved in local politics in my personal "real" life and I do advocate for worthy causes and candidates. I run into present and past local elected officials (Democrats) at various cultural and civic events on a regular basis.
Facebook is a great way to keep up with friends and family and to reconnect with long-lost friends!
BTW, welcome to DU!

(39,343 posts)Ok, maybe not your mom, but many if my friends' moms are. It's quite funny to read their mom's comments to their kid's exploits.
From last November
Friend: whoa we got so wasted after the concert last night that I didn't make it to work today.
FB Mom: be good. Also are you coming home for the holidays? If so, remember to bring that sweater your aunt Penny made for you last year. Love mom
