(66 posts)That's assuming you drink. If not, go with, "Hey, he was in the driver's seat and wouldn't get out!" or "How was I supposed to know that 'buy one get one free' meant that if I got a watermellon a St. Bernard was the 'free one'?"

If you aren't familiar with her, she was the driving force behind the development of COBOL and the one who coined the term "bug" with respect to computing. A moth got into one of the relay switches and jammed up the whole machine. She taped the dead moth into her log book and hence the term was born.
Go get the dog. Tell Honey "I'm sorry, I just couldn't resist" and then take her out for dinner or something. You know she'll melt just by seeing the dog, but the apology and dinner can't hurt.

Wow. Hope you can adopt him. You need to be very nice to your wife for ... ever, I think.
Edited to add: a friend of mine rescued a Great Dane and a truly massive Mastiff ... he ended up buying a minivan to lug the big ole slobbery loves around.

Hey, as long as you're not overly attached to the idea of groceries, it's all good. Cause we know where the food budget will be going from here on in. I think it's great. I know you and your very understanding wife will come to a successful negotiation. She does not sound like an obstructionist at all.

(1,328 posts)and I think this would be great.
If we were a little younger there would be some of the great big ones in our future. We now just have an Old English Sheepdog. Husband always wanted a St. Bernard and a Mastiff, I wanted a Newfy.

(6,787 posts)We've had two Great Pyrenees for years. They don't need much floor space, since they seldom frolic.
And even when they do ram around a bit, it doesn't last long. I always introduce them as the family rug impersonators. Most of the time they snooze and allow the cats to adore them. And once in a while we go for a stately walk. And when they sit in the backyard (fenced) they just SIT in the backyard.

Junior is fun.He just wanders along through life with his tongue hanging out bumbling along. He's a blast. He spends half his waking time staring at nothing, slobbering away.
Katie loves him now.She teases him relentlessly. She will lay chewtoys in front of him then take them away. She makes sure early the bigger dogs understand who is boss
Gonna take him fishing next weekend...will see...may take two .Junior hasn't been near water yet...should be interesting

Wishing you, and the puppehs the best!

(6,001 posts)have the *growing* junior and the wonder terrier...the bernard would just be icing on the cake.
Katies the real baby...she's a trip.8 million tons of energy in a 22 pound dog.If she's wound up and no one is in the mood to play with her she plays solo frisbee.....she's pretty good at it...she can get a good twenty foot toss sometimes.
Katie rules..she sleeps between us on the pillows...everyone else lays where she allows it
