I recently found out that the crime lab is about a mile from where I live...
So, today, my husband and I drove over for a look, and some pics.
Behold:
The front entrance:
What it really is:
My husband on the steps:
Me too:
And a pic lifted from CSI's Facebook page:

(102,200 posts)I can't say I was a major fan, but I did love the bright colors and atmosphere of the Miami CSI... The NYC one, by contrast, is so damned gloomy and dark.
Thanks for sharing... That looks like the spot to me.

(149,574 posts)I like the cast for both series, but the Miami folk are more real to me.
And this is most def the spot!
A lot of the Miami show was shot around the South Bay...esp. in Long Beach.

(43,166 posts)I understand why producers of the show chose to do it--probably saved them considerable money--but it was hard to take seriously the show as a Miami show where they didn't shoot locally (other than a few exterior shots). "Burn Notice" and "The Glades" both manage to shoot locally, so it can be done.
Now, had producers of "Homicide" or "The Wire" attempted to shoot in LA as opposed to Baltimore, that would have totally ruined those shows. One of the greatest things about those great shows were the authentic settings.

(149,574 posts)I am probably 10 pounds heavier than I should be...
But my life is good!

(72,300 posts)At my age 10 pounds is the least of my worries.
I'm content with being a little fluffy.

(149,574 posts)The Wikipedia article on the show was where I learned about the location.
Thanks for the kind words, sweetie!

(873 posts)I am an electrician who often comes up with lighting solutions for customers. It irks me when these crime shows depict a laboratory with can lights and mood lighting. Lol
There is just no way scientific work can be done under those circumstances. I hate these shows because people start to believe some of the crazy scientific fiction that is used to catch a criminal in less than an hour. People believe these shows are real and doubt real sciences like global warming or evolution. Rant over! Whew...... lol
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,574 posts)Your point is well taken! However, they never catch the criminal in less than an hour!
And parts of the lab (IIRC) are well lit.
I wonder about the equipment...is it at least based in reality?
Wounded Bear
(58,634 posts)would die for the kind of equipment that Abbie and the CSI series have.
Maybe even kill for it.

(32,078 posts)So, what you are saying that this building is not even in Miami? I assumed the whole thing was taped there. Oh well. I still miss it, anyway. Count me among those who wish they'd kept this one and let the CSI NYC go.

Wikipedia is your friend!
I never saw it when it was on the air...Now, we're streaming it via Netflix. I love it!
