That's enough...

(83,711 posts)I come from a family of nurse's and a doctor.
The first pic I sent looks like my grandmother's graduating class. Her husband was a doctor, she his nurse.
My mom, sister and niece, all nurse's. My dad actually went to med. school, then quit to join the war.
As for me no way, the sight of blood makes me want to oh sorry, you're sick...I shouldn't have said that!
Get well soon! Your patient's need you.

(66,309 posts)There was only one time when I was in with a patient and I wanted to throw up, but I'll spare you the details.
My patients are homeless, and sometimes their hygiene isn't the best. But I tell my team that it's important to treat the patients with respect and dignity. Because a lot of people don't treat the homeless that way; as, just, you know, people. I want them to feel that the clinic is a safe place for them.

(83,711 posts)What you do is such a great service to the people in your community. I thank you for that.
I live in the town next to where my sister works in ICU. She told me about a homeless man that has been admitted more than once. The last time he was there, they washed his clothes drying them with a hairdryer.
They all chipped in money and to buy him a good meal, then one of them drove him back to where he was picked up. It was all they could do.
I see him walking all the time, all around town. It is so very sad.
Thanks to all the people that care.

(66,309 posts)from using the emergency rooms for primary care. ED's are not set up to provide primary care, and the unpaid medical expenses generated this way get written off and passed on to the tax payer.
Our fairly generous grant for care saves the taxpayers a lot of money.
So would single-payer, but the phrase 'socialized medicine' has done its damage.
I wish I could claim the mantle of saintly sacrifice, but the truth is, I love what I do. And I love my patients. Nobody had better disrespect the homeless in my presence, or they'll get an earful.

(4,187 posts)and I worked through that all day today taking care of 2 year olds.
you know you feel bad when you can't wait for the end of the day to come
when you can go to the urgent clinic and beg for an antibiotic and steroid shot in the arse.
plus I have astma, so I can't wait or mess with not getting help if I have any kind of infection....
i'm feeling better already, but you'd think I'd be able to sleep after being all drugged up now.
*sigh*
hope you feel better. I'd rather have some tequila, but I don't think that would go good with
the drug cocktail i'm on right now.
