The consensus these days is that it's okay, partly because people do it so much anyway that you can't fight it anymore. Plus, rewriting a sentence to prevent that from occurring makes the sentence sound archaic or become unreadable. Might as well go with what people know

Now, double-spaces before a sentence? I say toss 'em out! Single-spaces are good enough, thanks to how computer typefaces work.

Yeah, I bookmarked it, too. I'll put it in a set of bookmarks I keep just for using on the job (CAD, mapping.)
