(4,833 posts)Had his ashes loaded into some cannon charges (maybe some fireworks too, I forget), had a big wake, and set 'em off.
Of course, I also think of that ash-scattering scene from "The Big Lebowski" - these things can go wrong very quickly.
I would like to be made into a diamond

You can do all of those things - the diamond doesn't require that much material, so you can do that and scatter some around, send a bit into space (still a bit spendy), and have still some scattered at sea by flushing down the commode or whatever.

(7,515 posts)Actually I'd be happy with the old Viking tradition...but I don't think the Coast Guard would care for it!
So an urn made of salt works best...just drop it into the big blue... and it begins to dissolve as it sinks.
There is nothing we won't discuss on du!

(4,833 posts)It sure beats having my stiff kicked over the side with the noon garbage. With or without a chorus of "Nearer My God to Thee". And once the thing is ablaze, all the USCG is going to do is to make sure it doesn't pose a hazard to navigation until that sucker sinks. If it is in deep enough water, they will treat it with benign neglect. Until it becomes a trend. But I'll be dead by then . . . .
Read something a while back that a local company was taking cremains and using them in a casting of large concrete spheres, with a lot of holes in the spheres, and then sinking these things. In numbers, they would make a small reef. Singly, in warm waters, like around much of FL, various forms of marine life grow in / on them, form a habitat, etc. Should last a few centuries, anyway, ignoring the rise and fall of ocean levels. Struck me as pretty cool. I'm a water sign, so I guess it just sort of resonates, you know?

(7,515 posts)I can think of nothing worse that being encased in steel, then concrete and placed under a ton or so of dirt. I would imagine I'd feel the same if I were an air sign...
Now that would be interesting, contributing to the marine environment. Do you remember where you read about it?

(4,833 posts)in the Sarasota bird cage liner. I think I saved something about it somewhere. But I've moved twice since then, once quite recently, and it might take me a bit of time to locate it. If I locate it reasonably soon I'll put it up, or send it along.
