I'm a white guy and was wondering why some black folks give me dirty looks when I wear a "hoodie".

It keeps happening and I'm 99% sure it isn't in my head.

Am I being insensitive? Is it related to the Trayvon Martin case?

Am I violating a new social more? I've worn these my whole life. Who hasn't?

I have two. One is plain black and the other is gray and has an Everlast logo.

I seem to get more negative attention when wearing the black one.

Anybody have any thoughts?

1. I'd never give anyone a second glance unless the hood was up on a 95 plus degree day...

that, I could never understand.

2. Is there a hate group in your area that is really into black hoodies?

Maybe you should look into that.

12. I live in FL. I live in shorts, polos and athletic shoes or flip-flop like sandals.

Still have a few dozen business suits in the back of a closet, but haven't had one on in several years. (Note to self: clean out the damned closet).

So I'm probably the wrong guy to be giving advice at this point.

But if it were me, and I were sensing that sort of hostility, I'd be making a wardrobe change.

6. I think you should change your wardrobe

get some plaid golf pants that come up to your nipples , a spiffy Banlon shirt in bold stripes ,wear a Sherlock Holmes hat and wear a 1978 Olds Cutlass hub cap around your neck on come coax cable .
I do this this and am accepted everywhere .

23. The Holmesian deerstalker cap makes the whole thing.

Also, I'd kill for those pants. A lot of hipsters would, I think that's the point of that stupid "Thrift Shop" song.

That might explain it.

14. How old are you?

In the school where I teach (working class suburb in Houston), hoodies are de rigueur (is that a word?) for all the guys. White guys who wear them don't get razzed. But when I wore one last winter, the kids got a laugh out of it. My sense is that it was an age thing, not a race thing.

You might also check your hoodie jacket for any slogans or logos on it that might be offensive.

<== hint, not a good choice

24. I'm convinced that was created...

explicitly for my grandma's old neighbor Mark. On more than one occasion, the state police have brought him back in the middle of the night caught poaching deer in his tighty whiteys. The rest of it speaks for itself, he's a deer-poaching scumbag, but the lack of clothes had me and the game-warden befuddled until we asked...we were sorry we asked.

He's hunting without any pants on, because he's too lazy to put pants on and "what fucking difference does it make what I wear to go hunting?"

'Cuz I could see black people having a problem with that.

30. Maybe it's your local customs. Here in Seattle hoodies are just self defense against the weather.

DOGS wear hoodies. Old people wear hoodies. Slugs wear hoodies.
