Without a doubt one of the classics of all time - "Blue Velvet".
That movie is just sublime, so perfect with the casting, the plots and twists. Probably one of the best movie roles for Dennis Hopper and Isabella Rossalini.
btw my lesson learned from "Blue Velvet" - if you find a severed ear in a field - just leave it where you found and and mind your own damn business!

(9,706 posts)I found "Blue Velvet" horribly depressing.

(12,360 posts)Dune is an awesome movie even though the ending strayed too far from the book. It's my favorite Lynch, too.

(49,824 posts)The theater was this cool old church. But there were these college kids behind me that were shroomed up and giggled at all the stuff they didn't understand (which was most of the time).

(13,420 posts)I liked Blue Velvet (well, as much as you can like something like that) and I thought that the casting in that film was simply amazing. Hopper stole that movie, but if you look at that cast list there were some pretty good actors in there with him. Lynch created something in that film that I think will stand for a very long time.
One movie that Lynch did that I liked, but still have ZERO clue about WTF happened is Lost Highway. To be honest I don't know snybody that does.

(33,688 posts)One of my all time favorite movies.
I had my own interpretation of it, but a friend pointed out that it's really Lynch's inside-out remake of "Sunset Boulevard" albeit done in his own inimitable style.
Twin Peaks was also an amazing piece of work.

This is not to say I don't like Weird Lynch.....but these two flicks lack attention.......

(49,824 posts)It was filmed in his town.
In fact, when he was just out of college, he lived in the house they filmed in for about a year.
The house is gone now.

(91 posts)He captures the alienation and absurdity of the industrial revolution (which is constantly heard in the background) while telling an intense story about an individual imprisoned not only by his maladies, but the prejudice and ignorance of humans.

Elephant Man is a close runner-up.

(29,146 posts)Very different movies, with the former more in line with what one expects from a Lynch movie, but the latter is great in its own way as well. The first season of Twin Peaks is also great.
I appreciate Blue Velvet, but think it is a bit overrated.
