(48,217 posts)When I lived there, a bakery around the corner from me had BAKERY written on the front. But did the owners or anyone in the shop speak English? No.
Everyone under the age of about 70 in Japan has studied three to six years of English in school, which does NOT mean that they speak it. However, they like to toss English words around and put them on signs and insert them in songs, whether they make any sense or not.(cf. engrish.com)
