The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsSuggest some contemporary Country artists I might enjoy.
The artists with a more pop/rock/country sound, who could "cross over" onto the Top 40 pop/rock charts. The ones who are criticized by the purists for not being sufficiently Country.
Always hated Country, but I am expanding my horizons. A couple of months ago, i started listening to Bon Jovi's Nashville influenced album 'Lost Highway' a lot, because, hey, it's still Bon Jovi and it's really good. I mentioned that to a friend who loves Country, and my friend got me into Lady Antebellum and Rascal Flatts, and I enjoyed a lot of their works. Since then, I've added Carrie Underwood, Sugarland, The Dixie Chicks (who are more folk-country but have a great sound), and Faith Hill to the mix.
So, who else has that kind of sound?

(28,394 posts)I saw something on TV recently that Natalie Mains is recording a solo album. Maybe it's out by now, don't know.
I also like Blake Shelton. I know he's pure country, but he's so darn adorable.

Go to YouTube and find a video of Zac Brown doing a duet with James .Taylor at an awards show
The song is Colder Wearher with a little surprise at the end.
My favorite YouTube video ever.

(41,932 posts)but I like the sideways folks. It's a true prejudice born of a RW family that loved and loves it and uses it defensively. But I love everything that country comes from, Bluegrass and Western Swing and Folk and Hillbilly/Rockabilly and Gospel.
Maybe I'll get over myself someday.
