Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsToday we had to say goodbye to Gizmo
He was a great cat. He was my nemesis. He would swat and bite me when I walked by him. I would push him off the back of the couch(onto the cushion side!) We had our fun times.
He was my wifes cat though. He slept with her, curled up with her when watching tv or just relaxing.
He was mischevious, a troublemaker and for a small cat, had a big attitude.
Of course he will be missed, but his last day was spent with us, and then he was able to spend some time in the backyard in a nice cool breeze with the warm sun beating down on him.
RIP Gizzer...you will be missed, but always remembered.

(4,338 posts)Gizmo was 14 years old. He had kidney failure. Came on quick, and there was no turning back. Obviously we didn't want him or us to suffer so it was for the best.
Still tough nonetheless.
To his last hour, he kept trying to be himself though.
One thing we did notice when this all started last week...he stopped purring. No matter how much comfort, cuddling, petting etc he wouldn't purr. And he was quite the purrer let me tell you. He had a motor that was loud!

My 18 year old Billie forgot everything, her food, litter box, where her favorite happy spots were in the house, how to purr.

(13,324 posts)He was seemingly healthy, aside from being a bit overweight - we tried to keep the weight off with limited success - but he went into some sort of distress (maybe a heart attack or poisoning) and died within an hour.
Our remaining cat is 16 with a bad thyroid, so who knows how long she might have left.
