couple of days or his quality of life is going to be very limited. Thanks.

(118,622 posts)Vibes to you in your time of need. You are a great egg - they must have been great parents.
I'm just worried my dad will not be able to have cataract surgery. We find out tomorrow if he is mobile enough. If he can't get it he won't be able to read almost at all. And his quality of life will go way down (he reads all day, every day). He's been a lucky guy in many ways. I just don't want to see him suffer this loss. We also find out in the weeks to come if both my parents have to go to a nursing home. Which he will hate. He will not be able to have his nightly two drinks. My mom is pretty oblivious at this point. But my dad is still so sensitive that he is a curmudgeon often. Boy it is hard for people who age. Loss after loss when you are not robust enough to withstand it. Gets to me.

The kind thoughts really help.

If you haven't already popped in, please remember the DU bereavement group is there for you.

(34,136 posts)I know how you feel - my Dad spent about two months in hospitals this spring. He's home now and getting better. It's hard raising parents.

My roommate in the rehab center has macular degeneration and he was a teacher
who read night and day, too, He's switched to books on tape and, although it took
him a while to adjust... he really likes them now.
