What a roller-coaster this long strange trip has been. The doctors
pretty much fixed the problems that brought me into the ER in the
first place. I can breathe and I have energy again and my heart is in
somewhat BETTER shape than the last time that they released me.
.
.
The problem NOW is that they discontinued the VERY effective drug
that kept my diabetic neuropathy down (tingling, numbness and PAIN).
My legs and feet hurt so much that I couldn't even stand up, let
alone walk. They started the drug again and the tingling and
excruciating pain was diminished more day-by-day.
.
My legs and feet feel pretty good, but I haven't much strength...
so on Monday they transferred me to a skilled nursing facility that
focuses on rehab. I'm working on building up enough strength in my
legs that I can function on my own at home again (I'm trying to
sell them on the concept of a TTBB delivery service -- with pizza
and beer, too).
.
Times before, I was confident that it wouldn't take more than a few
days... this time I haven't a clue, but this place is pretty nice
and it's comfortable and -- once again -- the therapists are
amazingly positive, friendly and upbeat... I'm not sure there's a
profession that is more so.
.
.
.
Thanks for all the vibes and well-wishes and especially the humor --
it helps more than you can imagine
.
.
.
.
Excuse me, but I think I've spotted a wild nurse resting in the
underbrush.

.
.
Shhhhhhhhh.

on the other hand maybe you don't want to disturb the habitat and force them to find shelter elsewhere...

(147,953 posts)How good to have this update! I am so encouraged by how well you're doing...
My life has been a bit hectic (Dad in the hospital w/big heart attack and a broken hip), car troubles, new chapbook, getting ready to travel, thyroid problems, cardiac problems, etc! These are why I haven't been around much.
One of these days I'll try to call.
I'll just bet that wild nurse is looking for you...

I'm VERY sorry that you're going through all this, both personally and with others.
.
At least with mine, I KNOW what to expect ((but not when it's going to turn ugly) --
same conditions, same symptoms and problems... but YOU have all these new things
and they're piling up on you all at once.
.
A good thing with Chippendale dancers... a bed thing with health problems.
.
.
My memory sucks. When did this happen to your dad? Poor guy. My roommate came
down here to visit from Michigan for a week, fell on his first day and broke his hip. He
has been in the hospital and rehab center since February.
.
They're sending him home tomorrow.
.
Shame -- he's a pretty old guy but a smartass and the two of us really clicked (cliqued?)
.
I think the nurses are a little scared of us because our room sparkles.

(147,953 posts)It's been almost 2 weeks since all this started.
I'm sorry about your roommate. His scenario sounds a lot like my dad's.
We're waiting to see how Dad does. It's too soon to tell about the long-term prognosis.
Thanks for your good thoughts...

(34,070 posts)My sister just dealt with Dad being the hospitals for close to two months (hospital, rehab, hospital, rehab) and in the middle of it, Mom going in for a few days, too. Nothing as serious as what your Dad had, but its scary when they're in the 90s.
Give your Dad a hug - and you take some for yourself.

And he's hundreds of miles away. My brother is going up to see him and Mom whenever he can. I'm in touch by phone...
Thanks for the hugs, sweetie!

(34,070 posts)I hope they can get all the medications sorted out! Aren't the physical therapists the best? (Well, in your case the nurses might be better, but for me, I didn't need the tag team baths so I had to make do with the PT staff.)
Tell your doctors that if they don't get you well, the Lounge will send Skittles to kick their butts!

(28,394 posts)I agree about the therapists. Everything else about rehab sucked, though, IMO. But I did love PT--- it was the highlight of my dreary days there.

(19,288 posts)Sorry about the neuropathy flair up, that had to have been hellish. You must get your strength to keep those nurses on their toes and out of the underbrush.
