I've never been a fan of vanity plates, for all the reasons you can probably guess at. I've thought of posting photos of particularly irritating ones here, but I thought that would be a bit of an invasion of privacy, since you could see the state. But I thought I'd like to comment on a few posts I've seen lately, so here's three recent plates.
This is the one that riled me: LUVGUNS. Why did it rile me? Love Guns? Really? Of all the things to love in the world, you choose guns? What about flowers? How 'bout your kids? Or sunshine? Or world piece. Or birds? Guns? Really?
This is the one that prompted me to post: SURNDR. On its own, it's pretty meaningless, I suppose. But I saw this car turning into the driveway to the county jail.
Is this one racist?: JAPATTK. This was on a Japanese model car, if that means anything. I can't imagine what the message is behind this one.

But, that also means one's car becomes immediately recognizable which is not always a good thing. Plus you pay a major premium to get the plate (and presumably more to renew each year?)
I don't get those making a derisive political or other controversial statement with them, though... That's just stupid, IMO.

(21,484 posts)The first was ANTYKIM after my first nephew was born. Good lord, 28 years ago.
Then, when I moved to Maryland, CA GRRL.
Then, we both wanted something that reflected our life with cats: MERM. It's a cat word.
Don't have one now, but I'm thinking of getting HALOFAN.
Yep. Vain. Kinda "look at me!"

my favorite one I saw online was a pair of matching Mercedes with plates that read "TAB A" and "SLOT B".
