give the proper 3- or 4-second pause to let that sink in, and follow it with,
"and a double mescal chaser".

I was actually kinda shy in those days (I was!!!) and this definitely got some
good conversations started.

Ya know... Shirley Temples were GREAT treats for kids when I was growing
up. When the family went out to dinner and the waitress/waiter would take
cocktail orders she/he would ALWAYS ask us if we would like a Shirley Temple.
Well, YEAH!!! They were like grown-up cocktails (and I'm pretty sure they were
on the house).

I don't think they're as well-known or offered in those situations now... but in
my image search for the picture below, I saw several brands of bottled Shirley
Temples(!!!), so they definitely have not disappeared.
