93.6 inside my house

laptop is hot to the touch - like TOO hot. I just went in the shower with my clothes on and sitting right in front of the fan is quite comfortable. should I put a wet towel on my computer so I can keep playing on DU?

never mind the computer - shut it off for half an hour or so - it'll cool down

meanwhile

take the friggen clothes off!

why wear clothes when you are hot???

and - geeze -

ya know better than to put anything wet on ur 'puter don't you???

re laptop,

make sure the vents are not blocked - especially if you are using it on a towel/bedspread.

I have my laptop on my coffee table raised with some small sticks underneath to allow air movement.

Makes a huge difference!

hopefully it will cool off now. I was just kidding about the computer - it is on a fan/chill pad and lifted off the desk by a chunk of wood, but still pretty damn warm. that is why I haven't been posting much in the afternoon for a while now.

as for clothes vs. naked - just a tee and shorts, but they hold water longer than bare skin and with the fan blowing I am quite comfortable. Used to have a cheap sears pool, and spent summers in a wet bathing suit. I sure miss my pool.

Have not built it yet, waiting for a load of topsoil to be delivered tomorrow to level off the place I want to put it, as well as smooth out my yard.

Pool is 18 feet diameter and 54" deep - I'll enjoy it for sure!!

I'm at the end of a dead end road - just a well with a submersible pump.

BUT - I may have the township fill the pool rather than run that pump for two or three days.

In other townships, Fire departments will bring up their water truck and fill the pool in minutes for a hundred bucks or so - using the trip for trainees as well.

I'll be contacting the township to see if that is an option here before I run my well pump for 2 days steady - it won't like it I'm sure (the well pump).

And yup - I'll pay to save my well pump . . .

6. omg RAIN!
Sun Jun 9, 2013, 07:05 PM
Jun 2013

a couple more weeks, I hope!

local legend makes a big deal about San Juan's day - traditional start of the monsoons. Old timers said if it rained (in June) before San Juan's day the summer rains would be poor. I don't know about that but man it would be nice to have a GOOD year for a change.

some friends that live on a different watershed have an annual summer rain dance (old style all night long country dance in the living room) around that weekend. MAY try to get to that. Have a couple free days after keeping the rental car for over a month last Feb.

Problem is getting to Tucson to pick it up. Cause, you know - some clown is going to want me to take him out for frozen girl drinks if I get within 30 miles.

otherwise, I don't go far from home in June. Now talk to me about spring or fall (or winter even).

or maybe

I am living almost like my pioneer ancestors did - in the same house even. Not really - I have gas, electric and running water. but no AC.

I am at 4500 feet elevation and it cools off beautifully at night. We live like natives and work in the early morning/evening - do the siesta thing to get through the worst part of the day. Also yes, wet towels, clothes, bedding!

A fan and a wet towel are quite comfortable most of the time. And iced tea! I live on it.

Lord, I seriously would die! You are one tough lady!

It's hot here and I've had the AC set on 76 with ceiling fans blowing all day, I was supposed to make a cake for a co-worker tomorrow but I refuse to turn the oven on... grocery store cake here I come!

Don't you live in AZ? Keep cool!

We live in an ancestral house, too, but did install a window AC unit. It was slightly cooler around that window.
BUT, then, in the early evening the delta breeze started up and a cool wind blew in from the coast- soon it was 77º and felt chilly! We opened the front and back door and windows and let the cool air blow through. This morning at 6:30 it was 61º! Today breezy, with clouds, and ~80º. Woo-hoo!

Heat can make you sick and even kill you. Please stay safe.

I'm in Las Vegas and we're going to have triple digit temps until late September. I told my mom that I don't have cold running water for half the year. When it dips to the 90s at night, you don't even need hot water for a shower.

here we just suffer for a few hours in the afternoon (and we are fortunate to be able to do traditional adaptive behaviors like sleeping in the afternoon and working early hours)

way too familiar with the dangers of this environment the last decade with the migrant deaths all along the border (I am about 60 miles from the line and not in the most dangerous area by far)

Well, not so hot today just humid.

It was cloudy and we had a thunderstorm blow in.

It was strong, knock down some tree limbs down the street.

I keep the ac on 79 or 80, cool enough for me.

Stay as cool as you can.

Only 86 here in the apartment though. I didn't even open the shades this morning. I haven't turned the fan on yet this year (no AC) but it's sitting on the floor staring at me.

I'm surprised at your elevation. I thought you would be much lower down there - I'm at 6,700'.

We have 2,000 bicyclists in town tonight, on their way from Telluride to Durango tomorrow, with a high of 97 forecast. http://ridetherockies.com/

Good times...

We bought a new swamp box last year (the old one was about 18 years old).
Man, that sucker works great. Nice and cool downstairs, a bit warmer upstairs.
