You'd think after 5 previously stellar juryings, I'd have a greater chance for another. :/

.
.
.
We were doomed from the start -- we had an old racist homophobe on the jury and
the defendant was white, the victim Mexican -- AND she claimed anal rape which
made the old guy start referring to him oh-so-subtly as "the gay-ro" instead of "the
guru". We didn't find out 'til afterwards that we probably could have had him removed
from the jury. If we had known, we would have and I think we MIGHT have compromised
to a second-degree conviction, also. With HIM on the jury, it was pointless (he was pushing
for "manslaughter" -- a change from his initial "not guilty" after we started WONDERING
out loud whether we could have him removed or not).
.
I think the second jury found her guilty of second-degree murder, rather than the
alternatives of first-degree or manslaughter.
.
It was frustrating and fascinating. I sought out his parents in the hallway afterwards
and hugged them and apologized for our outcome. I was utterly convinced of her
guilt -- I changed some minds in the jury room from second-degree to first-degree
votes (though not enough minds) AND I asked the judge (who agreed) to have the
D.A. explain the forensic gun findings to the jury again -- almost none of them had
experience with guns and had missed her points completely the first time.
.
.
.
The D.A. was a brilliant, little bitty fearless fireball. I thought she was hot.

that keeps me from doing it---so far. I do believe that I am still fair, which is probably why I hate it so much---I take is too seriously and spend too much time studying the whole thing.

I'm not getting hit with jury duty often enough to be inconvenient. I have opted out a few times - for threads on subjects I am biased about or threads I had read before the alert and didn't want to judge.

Or this kangaroo court bullshit DU3 introduced?

I served on 3 then opted out.

They're not juries. On juries you discuss, debate, then vote. These DU "juries" are like a CNN poll "Does Kim Kardashian have a big butt? Yes or No."

Six! Voted to acquit every single time, carrying the day on some 3-3 votes.

I'm still waiting to see a post I would obviously ban, and yes, I do have my standards and take jury duty very seriously.

It was during the judge's opening remarks. I asked if I could speak with him and the attorneys privately. I said "I know this man, I've worked with him...I just don't remember where."

So they went to the defendant and he said "I know him too, and I also can't remember where."

Thee judge said "Is this going to affect your ability to serve on this jury?"

I said "Yes, if I remember who he is halfway through the trial."

He said "You're dismissed."

Halfway home I remembered that we worked together at Apple, and he was a nice guy. It was a DUI trial. DUI is a crime, but I'm glad that I wasn't on the jury.
