Yeah. Wish I could be there, too. People can sing about leaving their hearts in San Francisco all they want. Chicago has my soul.

BTW, that photo was from 2010, which I also missed.

I couldn't find a new one that wasn't gigantic.

...has no idea what chills ran down your spine when the entire crowd would stand on its feet cheering loudly during the entire National Anthem as Wayne Messmer sang. It was so loud in there that you could hardly hear the anthem.

If that didn't bring tears to your eyes, nothing in this life ever will!

Only it's sung by Jim Corneilson. Tons of videos of him singing it on YouTube. From what I understand, it's gotten even louder. Folks had probably better bring ear plugs tonight.

He had a piece of it. I remember an episode where his apartment caught fire. He saved his dog and his chunk of the Chicago Stadium. He had his priorities right.

....is cool in my book.

Saw Goodman a couple times before he died....what an unbelievable performer!

I was born on the South Side, grew up on the West Side (Austin District) and then lived on the Northwest Side and North Side.

I was born (as was everyone born in Chicago) with my heart beating to the rhythm of 1-4-5 blues from the late great Maxwell Street, where I spent many Sunday mornings. Spent a lot of late night/early mornings there too on weekends after heavy partying to grab a couple Polishes from Jim's on Halsted.

Spent a good part of my youth in the bleachers at Wrigley (I went to Lane Tech High School right down the street from there).

I left Chicago in 1990 and while I miss the city every day, I don't miss winters at all!

Saw a lot of great Blackhawks teams in the early and mid-70s as a kid. Went to lots of games at the Stadium. Got to see Bobby and Dennis Hull, Stan Mikita, Tony Esposito, Keith Magnusen, and even Bobby Orr in a Hawks' uniform. What a shame those great teams never won the cup. But at least we got one recently and we're gonna get another one this year.

He's a blues piano player that has recently (5 years or so) discovered a love for Chicago that nears my own.

Not just because of the legends, but the dives and the unknowns that he's discovered online. In fact, his last band's name was 'Halsted' (Maxwell reminded everyone of Polish sausage ).

We're trying to get back there for a 'real' vacation so I can take him to some of the old and new clubs, but life keeps getting in the way. I have the feeling if I can get him into a few clubs, maybe even play at just one, he'd never want to leave. He's already fallen in love with the city and the people. Just gotta convince him that the weather isn't 'that bad'. Yeah, he's a SOCAL boy, so it really, really is that bad.

...and started going to Biddy Mulligan's on the North Shore from the time I was about 17 or 18. It was one place I never got carded even though I looked young...you needed to be 21 to get into bars by the time I was 17 as the drinking age just went up at that time. I saw so many greats there including Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, Albert Collins, James Cotton, David Bromberg, Fenton Robinson, Luther Allison and many more.

A few years later I was hitting all the blues bars on the near north side. I used to go see Blind John Davis play piano in a place called Lily's on Lincoln. Your husband would have loved him!

I left in the early 1980s. I think the last game I made it to, Bobby Orr played as a Blackhawk. I love, love, love Stan Mikita, and am so glad I got to see him play. He was involved in an organization that helped hearing impaired kids play hockey. I got to see a charity game between current (at the time) and retired Blackhawks and some of the older hearing impaired young men. It was loads of fun. The rink was small, so we got to see them up fairly close. The team now is fabulous! I'm glad I'm getting to be able to see them, at least on the telly or on the computer. Which is just as well. I understand tickets are hard to come by these days. How times have changed.

I was born on the West Side, about a mile and a half from the United Center. (and the old Stadium). Grew up in the NW 'burbs, but spent plenty of time at my grandma's in Ukie Village. Went to Loyola for college. I don't miss the winters, either. But, when it's 95 degrees with 50%+ humidity, like it is here today, they don't look so bad. It's a lot easier to warm up than it is to try to cool off in a steam bath. It's 102 with the heat index. Yuk!

Aldi came here a few years ago. I am pretty sure their store brand sausages are made by Vienna Beef. So, I can at least get good kielbasa and hot dogs. Hmmmm...might have to get some for Saturday's game...

Remember the old Granada Theater? I loved that place. They tore it down and put up a crappy little mall.

Never had it, since I commuted most of the time. Didn't eat out much. There used to be a great Thai restaurant just around the corner on Devon. I'm sure it's gone now. It was authentic Thai, and had lots of dishes on the menu I rarely see elsewhere.

though I wouldn't turn down a Vienna Beef Sandwich. I preferred Turano to Gonella bread too. Always ordered them Sweet, Hot and Wet. Now I don't eat any beef, pork or poultry.....just fish.

But I used to wolf down hotdogs...my favorite place was Superdawg on Milwaukee and Devon. The best place for beefs was Connie's on North and Harlem, but there were plenty of other great Italian Beef places on the West Side.

And, definitely not hot dogs--unless they're GOOD Chicago-style dogs. My dad used to take us to Portillo's by O'Hare. It was in a trailer back then. We'd have a hot dog and one of those tamales in the paper wrapper, and watch the air planes take off and land. Those were the days.

Famiiy relocated to CA, but my dad remained a Sox fan. I still remember sitting on grandpa's stoop, around the corner from Mayor Daley's house, seeing the lights flashing at Commiskey when the team scored.

Dad also was a big Dodgers fan, and we ended up in the right place for that.

I don't recall which hospital my dad was born. I was born at Elmhurst Memorial.

My father was raised in Daley's neighborhood, so you could have been neighbors (probably in different decades, though ). And, of course, he was a Sox fan. My brother and I were both Cubs fans, so baseball season at our house was always loud. But, football season healed all wounds.

My dad went to Morgan Park Military Academy all the way through high school (OCS).

One of my favorite memories is the Irish Southside St. Pat's Parade. To think I had no idea then what it was really about.

So, did your dad say 'Sothside a Chicaga' when someone asked where he was from?
