Does anyone know DEA rules & regulations?

I went to Costco Pharmacy to have a prescription filled for vicodin. They have been filling this script for about 8 months. I give the script to the pharmacist, do some shopping then head back to pick up the script.
The pharmacy tech asked for my ID, they've never asked in the past, but ok, I don't mind showing it to her. She then takes it from me & says she needs a copy for the "files" that it is a DEA rule that the pharmacy must have a copy of the person's ID who is receiving a controlled substance.

I can see a requirement that you furnish ID when filling & receiving a prescription for a controlled substance, but the pharmacy hanging onto that information, I have a problem with.

Does anyone know if there is such a rule. I've been googling, etc. and can't find anything yet.

As an aside, I've lost 90 lbs. since that DL photo was taken, so someone could make a case that I'm not who I am. I also take the medication for chronic pain due to spinal stenosis, a badly repaired broken hip, and sciatica.

...I remember them asking for my DL and entering it into their system for a controlled substance. That had to be close to 20 years ago.

Tried looking up the info online for you, but it was too much reading. (I'm sick and have a horrible headache)

They photocopied my D.L. on first contact,Paper scripts hand written every 30 days and they phoned the Dr. every time I refilled. They even blew my D.L. up 3X just to make sure it was me.I was taking 3X 10mg. Percodans daily and 1X 10mg. Demerol at bedtime. The pharmacy was all over me like paint on a fence because of the Opiates. This was at Highline Hospital in Burien,Washington ten years ago.
I also had to use the hospital pharmacy, they wouldn't let me fill the scripts anywhere else.
I was very tightly monitored to say the least and I felt like a criminal by the time I was fixed.

about feeling a criminal part. I wasn't even "early" getting this script. I was due for the 30 day refill on Sunday, but Costco pharmacy is closed on Sundays.

I also take tramadol and Neurontin(for nerve pain). If they had asked for ID the first time I went in, ok, but months later wanting ID and telling me it's a DEA regulation, has me wondering.

The Dr. told me they were deathly afraid of being audited so they had better control rules than the Feds required so they could prove they were in compliance.
All that being said,I had no addiction or substance issues so I was pretty well amazed at their behavior.
I would suggest that in your case someone overlooked the I.D. part in the beginning and it just got noticed by a diligent Tech.Just my guess.
Have you tried smoking a little weed to help with the nerve pain? It helps a lot of people that way.
I have friends with Fibromyalgia and M.S. who tell me it helps a lot.

to use marijuana to control the pain. But I can't do that until it's legalized in PA (fat chance of that). As to overlook by pharmacy in the beginning, I doubt that, because the tech just looked up my prescription, saw what I was getting & asked the question.

I'm just trying to find out if it is a DEA rule or not.

I am sure it is a state or federal requirement but I can't prove it to you at the moment.

Now that I think about it ,it is kind of creepy to think my name and personal information might be filed away on some dusty old "Narcotic User" database on some D.E.A. server somewhere...Ick!

I buy all of my prescription drugs in Mexico now so I have no idea what they do here.
I can't believe how much cheaper drugs are in Mexico,we (you) are being robbed blind by these bastards.
My neighbor across the street is from Mexico and he is the one who showed me just how badly Big Pharma is robbing the public here.He just shakes his head and smiles.

Maybe you should move to Washington, Colorado or Arizona so you can acquire the necessary medications, lol.I hear weed is pretty cheap in Douglas and Yuma, lol.

I am sure when you find the right answer for Pennsylvania it will be along the lines of what we have discussed here.
I am sorry couldn't help you with a succinct answer to your query.
Good Luck,I hope you are feeling better soon.

Deep, inside. Where you work, where you live, inside you. Economic determinism is inadequate to explain the pleasures banners experience in degrading and punishing the "immoral."

Shortly, tobacco will be next.

Just whatever some batch of power tripping moralist politicians and ministers want to shame the public for having.I am getting tired of their record keeping for no reason.

Speak for Pa. however in Md. and Tx. for me or other family members I have had to show id but I can't think of a time that copy was made of it.
Yet there again in Tn. just to buy cigarettes everyone has to show id or the clerk can be fired.
Sounds to me that is over covering their asses. Next time in I would ask to speak to a registered pharmacist about it.
Than again the rules on these substances change all the time.
