DU fashionistas: speaking of my wedding: the tie

It's in morning dress. Cravat, bow tie, or straight tie? The cravat has the advantage of allowing a pin that matches her saree. But I fear that crosses the line between "morning dress" and "period costume".

Thoughts?

Also, we're on a boat, which to me mandates light shoes, but morning dress mandates black. Suggestions?

and you're worried that it's the cravat that spells 'period costume'?

Better go with the bow tie for a morning outfit. But why not a cravat? If there's one time you should be allowed a little sartorial elegance, it's a wedding, right?

Though we're doing the full on "Indian Wedding" in December, so that will be even more sartorially awesome (it involves me wearing a cape).

I own a Hindi-style suit that I picked up at a Pakistani clothier in Vancouver, B.C. It's got a brocade, high-gorge vest, and a Nehru-collar suit jacket. It's cool. If I were going to your wedding, that's what I'd wear.

Enjoy.

Never wear black on a boat, you'll sweat through in minutes and look like hell. Nobody ever thinks of it but boats are on water and water in the late AM means you're standing on a platform (the boat) sitting on the surface of a vast refractive mirror. (the sea)

I might not go all-white because that will make you look like a Miami coke-dealer in your wedding pics but you might want to consider lighter colors with accents to match your wedding colors, bridesmade dresses and her bouquet.

Personally I like the straight tie but that's because I'm an iconoclast. I'd never wear a cravat but that's because I think they look stupid.

Ultimately, it's your wedding...what do you think? What does she think?

90'F is a near-given. I live here, it's my idea of hell. I don't go outside during daylight hours for two months.

(taking the it's in DC and date from the dog post.)

However miserable it is here, Mumbai and Calcutta will be worse. This is only a practice run as far as that goes...
