Why was Joe Friday going around taking everybody's fax machines?

Every single episode, it was like, "Just gimme the fax, ma'am!"

I never heard him say, "I've got to return this fax, now, Ben" or "I've got to return this fax, now, Ed" or "I've got to return this fax, now, Frank" or "I've got to return this fax, now, Bill"

What did he do with them all?

Also, whatever happened to Ben and Ed and Frank?

They just kinda disappeared

It's downright fishy

Am I the only one asking these questions?

I gotta to wonder if Joe was selling used fax machines out of some fake bookie joint on the strip just outside LAPD jurisdiction, and then he got nervous that Ben or Ed or Frank were onto him
