The Indian garb/makeup is supposed to be traditional to some tribe somewhere. They had a Native American consult them on that one.

I hear there is some controversy over Depp's portrayal of a Native American, though.

I wondered about it.

Why would they pick a non-native?

I don't remember much about Tonto, although I was aware of the tv show as a kid. I didn't watch it much.

He was a side-kick, right? How was he portrayed in the original? Did they have to do major updating of Tonto's image for the 21st century?

But I haven't seen enough of the original show to remember how he was portrayed there. Tonto was originally a sidekick.

I think they picked Depp to draw people to the theaters, simple as that.

was always in a subordinate role but as a child watching, I recall he was treated as a partner by the Lone Ranger.......

Johnny Depp looks less like a Native American man than I do. And I'm a woman.

One reason is because some of the filming took place some twenty or thirty miles from here.

Lately, after months and months of not going I went to see World War Z because I had to see it on the big screen. I have no regrets. I was on the edge of my seat from the very beginning. I will go see it again to take in much more than what one sitting can give me. There's a ton of stuff I missed because I got caught up in the story. They took Zombies up to whole new level with that movie.

But I'll watch the Lone Ranger when it comes out on HBO. I used to think it was a silly show when I was a kid. Maybe this movie will give the story some serious treatment. I'm not averse to having stories evolve and mature and even get dark.
