I am planning a trip, as long as Uncle Sam is nice. What are some things I will want to see?

(66,286 posts)Haven't been to Tucson in 35 years or so. I do know you can get incredible Mexican food there. They have (or had) a vibrant community theater scene, if you want to catch a play. More than that, I can't remember. If you want to see the real Tombstone, of myth and legend, it's anywhere from a 45-minute to an hour drive to the southeast of Tucson.
Have fun, LF...

(66,286 posts)I forgot the Painted Desert, the Petrified Forest, the Desert Museum, Old Tucson, and about a thousand old Spanish frontier mission churches.

(14,120 posts)Is there any campsites that are close by? Beside the KOA that is. I would like to stay at a Mom and Pop place.

(14,120 posts)Missouri is nice but it is just not working out. Dave is a born and raised in the state, so for him it will be like going home. We were thinking of Phoenix (his Home town) but his sister lives there and they don't get along. So I researched and saw good things about Tucson. So we are going to go check it out and see if it is a fit.

(6,261 posts)In addition to the suggestions already made, I can recommend Kartschner Caverns, which are still living caves about 50 miles out of town, very much worth seeing. Also Biosphere II if you care about that sort of thing -- I found it much more interesting than I was expecting.
If you're into bicycling, the Rilliito River Trail + Santa Cruz loop is a delight. It's now been fully paved since I was there last. These are trails on the banks of dry river beds.
If you're into pizza, I can recommend Magpie's Pizza!
