Lip-Shaped Urinals in Stones Museum Called Sexist

Women's rights campaigners are demanding the removal of urinals shaped like female mouths from the men's lavatory of a Rolling Stones museum in Germany. The owner denies the bowls are offensive and vows: "They're staying."

Women in the northern German town of Lüchow have expressed their dissatisfaction with the design of two urinals in the men's toilet of a museum dedicated to the Rolling Stones. They are shaped like red lips, similar to the legendary logo of the band, but they look more feminine, and they lack tongues.

Local activist Roda Armbruster wants the urinals removed. "That's discrimination against women," she told regional broadcaster NDR. "Why does it have to be a woman's mouth? If it had been based on the emblem of the Stones with the tongue, it would have been OK. But the tongue's been left out and they really looks like women's mouths."

Marianne Jönsson-Olm, the official in charge of women's issues in the Lüchow town administration, said: "An uproar has gone through the population -- around a dozen women came to me and complained."

(while I get the image take on Rolling Stones' famous iconic logo)....

what would the reaction have been among men, if the urinals were designed in the shape of a male's rear end? I have to think both straight and homosexual males would be upset by that. So, perhaps the women have a point?

London Museum Buys Jagger's Tongue And Lips Logo

The Victoria and Albert Museum has bought the original design of The Rolling Stones' tongue and lips logo, based on lead singer Sir Mick Jagger's famous pout, at an auction.

I'm not going to lock this, it seems PERFECT lounge material although I can see your point if the discussion veers off into too serious areas - in which case the only real option would be to alert on those posts to a jury.

Feel free to cross post in the forum you suggested and get the conversation going in a more serious direction. For now? this is classic lounge

the alerter actually read the article and thought it needed to go to the Feminist forum for talk on sexism, but the general topic of funny toilets is too perfect for the lounge. And that seems to be where ya'll are taking it.

one person alerted on this and suggested it be moved to the feminist group. which I can see if one wants serious discussion (not to say you can't have serious discussion in the lounge), but that doesn't mean this needs locking - they could ask the OP to cross post or hell, just post it wherever they want themselves.

now if MFM and the Straight Story don't derail this perfectly fine lounge romp by actually discussing the topic...

Men and women are (from what I gather) pretty much exactly the same (the only exception is that women can have children).

The Google only came up with this one, since the modern era replaced them all, but this is as close as it gets:

http://images.google.com/imgres?q=urinal+drain&hl=en&rlz=1T4GGLL_enUS396US429&biw=1071&bih=409&tbm=isch&tbnid=in1uzVxyfFXFlM:&imgrefurl=http://www.flickriver.com/places/United+States/Idaho/Malad+City/&docid=SVF4T88E3DkjIM&imgurl=&w=333&h=500&ei=UIAoT8_hFcbK2AXIrNzNAg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=196&vpy=21&dur=2429&hovh=275&hovw=183&tx=106&ty=181&sig=116244427806977725845&page=1&tbnh=100&tbnw=70&start=0&ndsp=16&ved=1t:429,r ,s:0

Being the backward, pre-sex/ed dweeb that I was, it was a matter of, "IS it?!1 Or isn't it?!1"

And even later in my extremely late blooming, I was puzzled when military dudes taught us about "male fittings" and "female fittings." I was, like, whaaaa?!1

Then, finally in my dotage, when computers came to my workplace, it became downright risque, irksome, when a (female) trainer came around the work stations and found it necessary to say to dudes, "Use the TIP of the cursor. Move the TIP, you know, the SENSITIVE part!1" Tips all over the room, like, ewww.

In fact, I challenge Roda to prove that the person who originally designed the logo had a woman's lips in mind.
