I think I should feel honored.

The cat my husband and I have been taken care of since its owner died gifted us this morning with a dead rodent on out front steps.

Yeah it is totally gross but I think that it is a sign that he is accepting us as his new caretakers?

...just wait until he brings in a live one and lets it loose so he can "teach" you how to hunt. My dad's girlfriend had a cat that brought a live one in and let it loose on her bed.

That's not a present, it is a commandment. Yes, you have been accepted. You are now his official servants.

A subservient part, to be sure, but a part nevertheless.

Revel in this moment. It would be appropriate to provide a small offering of quality catnip for your new Overlord.

Protocol suggests that you may also allow yourself a small quantity of wine, or your intoxicant of choice.

When you start finding hundreds of mouse skulls impaled on stakes around the yard, then you'll know that the kitty's methods are becoming unsound. The horror.

He's showing you he's capable of absolutely anything. Does he rub around your feet at the top of stairs? He's probably trying to trip you.
