It seems to be the same crowd that cursed my family even unto the 7th generation for stating that smoking is bad for you, and you shouldn't do it around your kids. You'd think I'd run over their grandmother, or raped their dog.

I think the question should be, how are you. I looked, that was brutal, sorry about that, people think they are experts in fields they really know little about.
You're a great guy and a very caring provider, just ignore them. They'll curl up and go away soon enough.

It's incredible how everybody has a better way to do the job than the person who is actually doing it.

I don't blame you for repairing to the Lounge. There seems to be a helluva lot of assumptions and miscomunication in that thread.
As someone I know used to tell me, "You're doomed if you do and doomed if you don't."

You know we love you here. More than that, we all respect you.
That means more to me than you can know. 
On reflection, I can see how the OP may have seemed coarse, and uncaring. But it certainly was not meant in that spirit. It seemed as if I viewed patients as adversaries, and that was not what I meant either. My intent was to enlist my patients as partners in improving the day-to-day management of a medical system that does not always operate at an optimal level.
As is fairly typical, people who do not know me ascribed to me the most monstrous, despicable traits humans can possess, and the people who do know me understood what I meant, and showed their support. It how one knows who one's friends are...
Any advice from you as well?
