How to properly use a knife!

My mother is Chinese and taught me how to cook. I've been using a cleaver to cut just about everything for years and years. As someone who loves food and cooking one thing that always makes me cringe, almost a pet peeve, is when I see someone holding a knife awkwardly.

This is the proper way to hold a knife, specifically a clever but almost any large knife. Assuming you are cutting vegetables and the like. Meat is a whole other issue:

The closer your fingers are to the blade the safer it is. Assuming you have them curled in this way. I've seen people holding the knife at weird angles with their other hand way outside. Drives me crazy. Maybe it's just me

That is also how you space your cuts. OffWithTheirHeads Jan 2014 #1
True, technically it's not how you actually hold the knife. Locut0s Jan 2014 #2

More people cut themselves with a dull knife than with a sharp one.
Too many people don't know how to properly sharpen a knife.

And if and when you do cut yourself you better pray it's with the sharp knife cause the cut from a dull knife is going to be a lot worse.
