Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI'll be undergoing hip replacement surgery....
Towards the end of January/ first week of February....right hip first, followed by recovery, then the left sometime in April. Has Anyone here undergone this procedure? I've heard a lot of good stories this far, so I'm Pretty optimistic. I've been dealing with hip arthritis now for 5 years...I'm looking forward to walking, climbing, clipping my own toenails, bending over to pety dog.....etc , etc.....

(1,725 posts)I'm BRAND NEW! I exercised my arms before the operation, so I could pull myself up in the hospital bed. A necessity. I also lost weight before the operation too. Also important...less weight on the hip during recovery. I did everything the therapist told me to do and did NOT do things I shouldn't, before I was healed. LET IT HEAL. Don't push to get better...just HEAL. By 3 months I was pretty good with just a cane and then I didn't need one. I now wear high heels and dance! It's just wonderful not to have that pain anymore. Even in bad weather...no pains or aches..ever! I'm amazed how well I am. Good luck!

(2,952 posts)Who has had nearly 30 years in the field. She managed Nascars Bill France senior back to health after an accident a few years back and helped recommend a good ortho to me. Never been a dancer but I imagine I'll shake a leg after it's all said and done! Thank you so much!

(20,886 posts)Best thing I've ever done. Recovery time is pretty rapid.
Word of advice: strengthen your quads as much as possible before the surgery. You're never as strong as you think you are.

(2,952 posts)This is probably TMI, but the one positive thing that's come from the last few years of limited mobility are my chest, shoulders and my forearms are TIGHT from steadying myself and pulling my own body weight(about 230lbs on a 6-1 frame) off the bed, toilet, etc..the additional weight will shed once I get more mobile...it always has at any rate. Thanks for your kind words!

There's good advice in your thread--you should be fine!
