Freeway the Cat Was Trapped and Then Rescued Near an Interstate in San Francisco

Cats have an uncanny ability to get themselves stuck in the silliest places. Last year, I rescued a kitten who managed to get herself permanently lodged on top of a Brooklyn rooftop; my own cat Mimosa also likes to repeatedly hop up on top of the fridge-freezer and only then remember that she cannot get down.

Over in San Francisco, a handsome gray cat recently found himself trapped on an Interstate-80 off-ramp. Naturally, he's become known as Freeway.

Freeway's misadventure saw him wedged on top of a hefty chunk of cold concrete while cars whizzed by. After noticing that the cat was seemingly stuck there over a period of days, a man who is being billed as "a commuting Good Samaritan" brought the cat's plight to the attention of the local Animal Care and Control center.

I hope he/she gets a nice, caring home. Cats that are featured in the news are often snapped up by good families.

I was in the left hand lane and saw an object in the center of my lane but couldn't tell what it was. I passed over it and looked in my rear view mirror and saw something run for the center median. I immediately pulled over and ran back to find a kitten, about six weeks old clinging to the fence dividing traffic. I pried it loose and put it in my car and took it home. Of course I named him Freeway and he lived a long and happy life with me.
