Please help me help my friend in dire need!
A dear friend of mine has had one bit of bad luck after another. She works VERY HARD as a housekeeper, and she lives alone and truly on the margins of poverty. The problem now for her is that her 1997 Honda is broken. It needs a new engine. Without the car, she can't get to work. Without work, she has no money to fix her car, or pay rent or buy food, medicine, etc. I have helped her pay for prescriptions and some other things, but I have no more money to give or lend to her. She has a mechanic friend who is willing to fix it for as little as he possibly can, $2000—which is amazingly cheap. He will let her pay for his labor over time, but she has to purchase the engine.
She calls me, crying, and I feel so helpless. I don't even know what to suggest to her.
She lives in San Jose, CA. If anybody has any ideas on how to help her, please let me know. Or if you know anyone who can donate to her a 1997 Honda engine, please PM me.
