There used to be a bit of a divide—actually more of a yawning chasm—between the Lounge and General Discussion, where GD people wouldn't be caught dead here because Lounge people didn't talk about anything "important". Is that still the case?

but there are still a few in GD with sticks shoved so far up their asses they can tell you the species of tree, that bristle if you so much as hint at a joke in their sphere of serious commentary.

of people (including myself) posting in both places. Although I didn't even know DU existed a few years ago, today, I don't think there is much a divide between both spots. I assume that most people here see the Lounge as a place to sort of take a break from the politics.

while there is an on going thread in GD joking about a treasure trove found in one man's posterior.

So, at least in regards to this one particular issue, there is a movement towards a common ground.

GD still has it's moments. There will be thirty posts about the same topic and someone will post one subject that is kind of Lounge-ish and there will be someone complaining about it, "This belongs in the Lounge" gasp...gasp...fart.

Not a single Canadian among the 45. But they have THREE people from last season, one of whom didn't even make it past her Tournament of Champions quarterfinal. As a past finalist, I'm not impressed. I wanted a chance to take down Ken Jennings.

I'm kind of a newer regular poster here but I've been told that things were worse in the past. Still as it stands GD still has its regular "topic of the week/month" wars that seem to rage on under the surface. I stick to the Lounge for the most part and post the occasional rant in GD
