Just saw American Hustle. I don't know how a movie could be more fun. Wow!

Christian Bale was phenomenal. Everyone in it was, actually. I don't know how much was true and how much wasn't, but I didn't care. Every frame was fabulous. It was smart, funny, and edge-of-your-seat suspenseful. If you haven't seen it yet, see it.

Aside from how fantastic he was in this roll from an acting standpoint I thought it was a brave move for him to take it on. He's normally seen as one of the Hollywood pretty boys, and there's no doubting he's quite handsome. Here though he was willing to do a 180 and portray himself as a rather overweight balding middle aged man who doesn't seem to have a lot of pride in his personal appearance. Quite the polar opposite to the types of rolls he normally plays and the image the world has built of him.

I don't think he wants to capitalize on the pretty boy thing.

I can see why he'd be cast, he has a distinctive look, strong facial features. He stands out, something they are often looking for in films.

A small time scam artist couple get caught then cook up the ultimate scam in order to hook some big name bad guys in the plea deal of the century. Of course they get in WAY over their heads and a lot of the movie surrounds how they are going to extricate themselves from what seems like an impossible, lose lose position. It has shades of Goodfellas, only with a lot more comedy thrown in. Fantastic period piece of the 70s. Great acting all round.

And how Christian Bale got more and more conflicted. Nice bit of acting.

Although, for me it started to drag a bit towards the end, then the last 1/2 hour made it for it all! No spoilers, but you got that inkling of foreshadowing in the lawyer's office, then Russel just brought it home. Loved!

Mike Wallace interview. The real guy loved the real mayor, because the real mayor was super corrupt. Weinberg said he would do any crooked deal.
