What do they do with their misery, if they can't use it on their minor-but-major-to-them problems?

Some people have some very very major problems that they have some how managed to convince themselves are minor. Other's have somewhat minor problems that they have convinced themselves are end of life events. I'm familiar with both flavors and have let both completely ruin things for me over the years.
