Zagat's Best Pizza in every state

California: Watsonville Apple Pizza at Pizza My Heart, Multiple Locations
VERY clever name for a pizza place

Georgia: Holy Shiitake Pie at Mellow Mushroom in Georgia
great name

THIS looks delicious

Iowa: Flying Tomato at Wig and Pen

This Iowa-city favorite offers everything from deep dish to thin crust, and the Flying Tomato is quite literally the in-between. Wig and Pen’s signature pie is both a pan pie and a stuffed pizza, somehow maintaining its own unique form that doesn’t look like any other types of pizza. Topped with mozzarella and tomato slices, it’s not deep enough to be deep dish and not thin enough to be a regular pan, so it’s essentially the just-right Goldilocks version of pizza.

I see 50 decent pizza recommendations in that list and it ignores that the consistent winner of most pizza competitions in DC, MD and VA is a DC-based chain called Pete's. Likewise, there's a Mellow Mushroom in DC on 18th St. NW.

Advice...move to DC. From a birthplace of a joke (DC is famous for the Jumbo Slice, a pizza joke that started out of notion that if DC was going to have bad pizza, they were going to be famous for having huge slices of it.), DC is rapidly becoming a pizza mecca. Like everything else in DC, what it lacks in it's own unique style, it makes up for in becoming a melange of what's great elsewhere...except Mexican food. There is no good Mexican food in DC. (Actually, there's Super Taco & Bakery in Adams Morgan but most people won't give it the time of day because it looks like a cramped dingy bodega. The food is some of the best Mexican food I've had anywhere.)

Mostly meh.

We love DC. That's where the closest Mellow Mushroom is to us.

via ballot initiative. But it passed anyway, and they still have several locations here; none has closed.

New Hampshire: The Bella Cosa at 900 Degrees in Manchester

Made in a wood-fired oven that’s said to reach temperatures exceeding the restaurant’s name, the Bella Cosa - a pie topped with roasted garlic cream sauce, caramelized onions, baby spinach, rosemary ham, prosciutto and fresh mozzarella - is a favorite of regulars at this Manchester pizzeria.

Mmm.
