I'm scared tonight.

The best-est friend in the world, Sugar Bear the Pembroke corgi dog is staying the night at the emergency vet clinic. She has a bladder stone with a partial obstruction in her urethra. She is being stabilized overnight , so I can pick her up (before the crazy icing begins here in Charleston, S.C) and rush her to my normal vet for surgery. This all started after 2 pm today, and she's 13 year old.
This overnight is costing at least 400 to 900 bucks, and I have no idea what it will cost tomorrow. I just can't say goodbye yet.

We were just doing the corgi butt bounce last night in the kitchen. She doesn't act old to me, but am I asking too much from my ole girl? You may remember us from a few years ago on DU, I had a fund raiser for cancer surgery years ago , and she recovered and continued to me with me everyday/everywhere.

Scary night, and tomorrow another day. Yeah, it' s just my doggie, but my heart hurts.

If not, you might want to ask your vet if it would be possible for him to try. Our vet did it for our 13 yo cat, then kept him overnight on fluid ivs to make sure he was ok. They were able to send him home the next afternoon with an antibiotic and a urinary health kibble diet. As I said, it was our cat. Not sure the same would work for a dog, but the vet might know. It turned out being 1/3rd of what it would have cost to walk through the door at our local "chain" vet (VCA) and we avoided the surgery and anesthesia.

6. She with the "new '" vet overnight

to keep her comfortable and safe, tomorrow to our real vet. If the stone moves, then they will pull out urine out of the bladder so her kidneys don't fail.

My normal vet told me surgery for the one, maybe diet for the rest. I just hope my old friend can handle it. You would all enjoy her, loves people but thinks doggies suck. Haha

7. I know you are scared. I have been there with two dogs

at an emergency hospital two different times. One did not make it out. But the emergency hospital wanted to charge me $1200 for an emergency hysterectomy for my other dog. I told the vets there to stabilize her until morning. I took her home and took her to her regular vet where the operation was only $300. The emergency animal hospitals are a total ripoff, but sometimes we have no choice. I hope your dog will be OK.

Just got called that more work had to be done on her, so now the cost might be 900 dollars. However, what can you do? She is duress and none of our pet owners want a pet in pain. However, they aren't lying on that issue. I saw that myself.

I have 3 corgis (maybe you remember me). Our oldest one is 12 and is going through health issues too, so I know what you are going through. We do what we have to for them because of how much they give to us. They are family.

21. Just to let my DU friends now

She got through the surgery. It appears that it is the type that comes from UTI infections, so she is on antibotics. Vet struggled with the one stone, that caused the blockage but after sometime it broke off and then could be pulled out. She still tired, and sleepy but she's my friend and she's home with me.

Thank heaven your dog is okay. It must have been awfully painful for her.

Will she eat plain yogurt? Ask your vet if it's okay to give her a teaspoon or two of plain low-fat yogurt each day to keep the antibiotics from wiping out all the good bacteria in the digestive system. My dogs and cats love plain yogurt.

I remembered a couple of things....

Because Corgis are prone to bladder stones, they should be fed low-protein food, under 22% protein.

My Yorkie had bladder stones and following removal, he was on a pill for life that the vet said was similar to cranberry juice. Ask your vet if it would be OK for Sugar Bear. Sorry I can't remember the name of it.
