Must be a wreck near Cobb Parkway?I-75?

She has a jeep but knows very little about 4-wheel drive--when to use it AND WHEN NOT to.... I tried to advise her from here, but couldn't really tell what the conditions were. It didn't sound like 4-Wheel drive would have been needed or helpful, but hard to tell?

6. 4-wheel drive won't help you on a slippery road.

It's great for getting un-stuck in deep snow or mud. But a lot of people think it will keep you from slipping on ice -- it won't.

I said I didn't know what the conditions were in Atlanta that had her considering using it... Given I am in Colorado and only hearing via internet that Atlanta was getting a winter storm, that would be expected.

This sounds like what happened in Raleigh in January 2005:

When the dry snow hit already frigid streets at midday, it turned to ice as schools and businesses scrambled to close early. That sent thousands of cars onto the roads before salt trucks could treat the pavement.

Police handled more than 1,000 accidents, none fatal, and some people were caught in traffic jams that left them on the roads for more than eight hours. Buses were unable to take children home from school, stranding nearly 3,000 students in their classrooms with their teachers overnight. Some motorists who could not get home bunked with others in office buildings and even grocery stores.

My friends, coworkers who are passing it around (one had a 14 hour commute) find it quite humorous.
