Not really. The story is about a specific real life person, Eugene Allen. kwassa Mar 2014 #9

Part of the reason is that I read the original Washington Post articles the movie is based on.

There are no more dangerous words than "inspired by a true story" because it means they are going to make a bunch of shit up.

I won't spoil it for you, critiques are online, basically the entire childhood story of the butler is false and manufactured. Also, the life of the son is also manufactured and manipulated in order to give an education of the highlights of the civil rights movement, also untrue in regards to the real life of the son. In the movie, the son was quite remarkable at being able to show up at all the major civil rights events at the right time. The entire movie was shaped to give an education to people who had none, in regards of the civilr rights movement.

it is a good movie for people with limited background in the history of civil rights. It is not so good for those who wanted an real accurate portrayal of the butlers .

I did not read the articles you speak of. (I will, especially in light of what you wrote)

I read this: http://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/magazine/the-butler-movie-forest-oprah-and-me/2013/07/24/7e38d738-d386-11e2-a73e-826d299ff459_story.html

I could be mistaken, but I think he understood that this was a hollywood movie.

I'm going to take a look at his articles. (I meant to do so after reading that in the magazine, but life.... etc)

and then I will watch the movie.

I watched it purely for entertainment purposes.

It sounds like you were looking for something more like a documentary.

My Mom saw it and enjoyed it. Most people who have seen it like it, but I stand by my beliefs!
