"Someone needs to off X" -- WTF?

So I am friends with a breed rescue guy on FB, and all his posts are about the older dogs he rescues. I have an older rescue of the same breed, so I usually enjoy his posts.

Today he posted a cartoon that had a woman confessing to a priest that she's killed some Congressman, and the priest said "That's not a sin, it's a public service!". The Dog Guy commented "we can all agree on this regardless of our politics". It was from a site called "Liberals are hypocrites 2" (is they admitting to being big old hypocrites, or is it the 2nd incarnation of the site? I was afraid to look)

I would not have responded one way or another, in spite of being uncomfortable with it, but one of his FB friends said "I just wish someone would off Feinstein". I replied "Really? It's now funny to joke about "offing" someone? Haha! Maybe we need to "off" that Gabby Giffords woman. Oh, wait..."

I was glad to see the Dog Guy pulled down the whole post.

WTF is wrong with these people? Why do people think it's okay to publicly wish for assassinations? I would not have cried many tears if Shrub or Cheney had choked on a pretzel, but I don't remember anyone here, no matter how upset we were, calling for assassination.

to what they say and whom they say it to - they open up like that in a bar or other public venue - forgetting they are no longer under the cloak of an online forum, fb, or twitter - and poof!. they will be eating their candor.
