to spend all 24 hours of it in one country.
Fat chance *sigh*
Tomorrow: breakfast in Germany, lunch in France, afternoon coffee in Belgium and back to Germany for my big fat Greek birthday dinner!
Oh, well, all I have to do the day after is run down to Spain (could be worse--I could have a desk job).

(11,589 posts)One time, I had to leave Virginia, go to DC, drive to Maryland, pick up a thing in Delaware and head on up to Pennsylvania!
you think you got problems! our EZ pass was acting funky!
DFW
(54,338 posts)First off, I don't need an EZ pass with Air France LOL!!
And second, my wife, who is German found this birthday card somewhere in the States,
and modified it somewhat to make it look like me (I could use a little body tone-up):

It looks like it's a good one.

(10,418 posts)I long for a desk job. I'm finishing my degree right now so I can make my dream come true.
DFW
(54,338 posts)I'd go stir crazy if I had a desk job. My biggest fear is getting recalled Stateside and being assigned to the same desk for days in a row, let alone months.
I'd rather lose a little sleep and look forward to wandering Barcelona's Gothic Quarter and ordering lunch in Catalan every few weeks.

I'll eat around it, though....

(6,011 posts)if you have them wipe the butter off their feet on a napkin. But clean, healthy food is really magnifique, n'est pas?
I hope you will have the nicest international working birthday possible!
(Hmmm, it must be a lot easier having one currency for all those different countries!)
DFW
(54,338 posts)That was a punch line to a joke some years back, but I forgot what it was.
The Greeks make great grilled fish and they even substitute turkey meat for the lamb and pork when they make souvlaki for me, as they know my dietary restrictions (I love small towns!).
I did make it back in one piece to Germany, even if I'm not sure what day or time it is. Someone oughtta know.
The Euro does facilitate things somewhat, although not all countries use it. Scandinavia, Switzerland, the UK, most of the Eastern European countries still use their own currencies. But on a day like today, when it's just Germany/France/Benelux, yeah, it does make things easier.

(4,909 posts)And are they hiring?
DFW
(54,338 posts)I can't get into detail about exactly what I do on here, but yes, we are hiring. We probably take on 10-15 new people a year worldwide, and there are only 400 of us to begin with.
Are you fluent in any languages other than English and Spanish, and do you live near Dallas or in Europe?
DFW
(54,338 posts)It is now 5:30 PM Central European Summer Time.
The 6:45 AM plane down to Paris was on time (you can tell it wasn't Lufthansa), and I actually got my work done in time to get outta there to make it to Sprout City and then on back here.
Anyone looking for a high-paying day job? All you gotta do is speak 7 European languages, be able to detect counterfeit money (back to 1793), have EU working papers and not need sleep!
We're going to our favorite Greek place in 2 hours and I am NOT leaving the country (i.e Germany) for ANYTHING for the rest of the day.
(I DO have to be back in Spain by tomorrow evening though. There is no rest for the weary).
