food rave of the day (3/25): pickles

Actually anything pickled or brined: olives, cucumber, sauerkraut, mushrooms.

I once saw Anne Burrell make a salad w/ homemade pickled cauliflower, so I learned how to make pickled cauliflower.

My dad is a big fan of pickled herring--and was surprised that even as a kid, I liked it too.

Especially if it's a good Kosher dill juice with lots of garlic.

I grow and can my own dill and kosher dill pickles, Senfgurken, Red cabbage -- oh if it has vinegar, I'll can it!

But I have not yet tried cauliflower. I may even put a few in the garden this year just to pickle and can them!

I will occasionally do mushrooms and canned or frozen artichokes this way. But, that recipe sounds better. Thanks for posting it!

I never had pickled eggs, although I'll happily try them if given the chance. However, I just can't bring myself to eat pig's feet. I do love pickled okra, however, especially homemade. Yum!

I would pass on the pickled eggs and other pickled animal products. For all the times I used to spend in a bar with a jar of pickled eggs on it, it is amazing that I never tried one. However, I loved any kinds of pickled vegetables and olives.

Peace
