1. Coffee!

When I was in PA School, I had pretty bad insomnia 3-4 nights a month, undoubtedly due to stress. When I knew sleep wasn't going to happen, I'd stay up late studying (a good use of the time, and also a way to avoid the stress of feeling like I wasn't doing enough to succeed) until I felt sleepy enough to try going to bed again (sometimes 1 or 2 in the morning, with a wake-up of 4:45 or so...)

The next morning, I'd take a nap on the express bus to UW, and then tank up on coffee when I got there. After morning lecture, I'd head over to a Palestinian restaurant on The Ave for lunch and some high-tension Turkish coffee to keep me awake through afternoon lecture.

heard of rhodiola before your post - will be on the look out for it now.

Do you recommend a certain type/brand/dosage?

Thanks again.

I bought NOW brand, I think it's 500mg. The important thing with rhodiola is that it be standardized at 3%.

I just go through it, and keep busy.

Hoping, that when the time comes to sleep, I can do so.

I don't drink coffee.

Get some Melatonin, start taking it every night 30 minutes before bedtime.

Make sure your bedroom is dark. If you can't do that get an eyeshade / sleep mask.

Use earplugs, or some sort of white noise, a fan, or a white noise machine. Or maybe a CD of surf sounds or something similar.

of course, it's combating an anti-depressant. I can fall asleep, stay sleeping for about four hours, and then I'm up, back to sleep, up, back to sleep. It's aggravating.

I work out like crazy. It's not that, though I did not have as many sleep issues as when I was doing cross fit 6 days per week.

I was so wired, it was like I was in this twilight zone between sleep and awake and I couldn't "wake up" from it. It was horrible. I never took it again. I'd read that could be a side effect for a small percentage of people and I am definitely one of those people. Never took it again.

run it by your doctor first.

Per Sloan-Kettering:
