How do you make it through the next day?

(66,316 posts)When I was in PA School, I had pretty bad insomnia 3-4 nights a month, undoubtedly due to stress. When I knew sleep wasn't going to happen, I'd stay up late studying (a good use of the time, and also a way to avoid the stress of feeling like I wasn't doing enough to succeed) until I felt sleepy enough to try going to bed again (sometimes 1 or 2 in the morning, with a wake-up of 4:45 or so...)
The next morning, I'd take a nap on the express bus to UW, and then tank up on coffee when I got there. After morning lecture, I'd head over to a Palestinian restaurant on The Ave for lunch and some high-tension Turkish coffee to keep me awake through afternoon lecture.

(1,210 posts)heard of rhodiola before your post - will be on the look out for it now.
Do you recommend a certain type/brand/dosage?
Thanks again.
I bought NOW brand, I think it's 500mg. The important thing with rhodiola is that it be standardized at 3%.

(8,217 posts)I just go through it, and keep busy.
Hoping, that when the time comes to sleep, I can do so.

I don't drink coffee.
Get some Melatonin, start taking it every night 30 minutes before bedtime.
Make sure your bedroom is dark. If you can't do that get an eyeshade / sleep mask.
Use earplugs, or some sort of white noise, a fan, or a white noise machine. Or maybe a CD of surf sounds or something similar.

(11,791 posts)of course, it's combating an anti-depressant. I can fall asleep, stay sleeping for about four hours, and then I'm up, back to sleep, up, back to sleep. It's aggravating.

(11,791 posts)I work out like crazy. It's not that, though I did not have as many sleep issues as when I was doing cross fit 6 days per week.

(4,465 posts)I was so wired, it was like I was in this twilight zone between sleep and awake and I couldn't "wake up" from it. It was horrible. I never took it again. I'd read that could be a side effect for a small percentage of people and I am definitely one of those people. Never took it again.
