i am part of someone's inspirational speech.

omg.

so, in large part it has to do with the fact that i took a vacant lot and turned it into an urban farm.
but the real story is about how i was at a fundraiser, a small one, really, in chi here where the pres was speaking. gen44 is something that didnt get a lot of traction, and i am way past that gen, but i went to several of the events. they were mod high tix, but very small.
anyway, i got to be on the rope line, and was determined to get an autograph. (longer story that) i had michelle's book about gardens. they told us to put our hands up as he was coming down the line, and i hesitantly held up the book. (which i shouldnt have had)
ss agent barked at me to put it away. i spend about 5 seconds thinking about that, but as the pres walked up, i shoved that book up there.
he told me to give it to the man, he would sign it in the back. i did. i had no idea how to get it back. it took a week to track it down back at campaign headquarters.
but damned if i dont have that puppy.

his moral of the story- you must be ready to act.

being a farmer was just something that happened to me, too. sometimes plans are just jokes. you have to be ready to jump. and jump whether you are ready or not.

ok, you can go back to your drinks now.

the person in the back who takes your book is supposed to insist you write your name and address on the inside
cover. After the speech, Obama signs the books, and then they bring them out to you. They have you put in your
address just in case you aren't located, or left forgetting it, or something else happens.

Just FYI for anyone else who is interested. That's how I got my Obama autograph.

if i ever got it back!!
but just a tip that if you want that signature, the best thing to ask him to sign is one of his books.

we were told there would be none of that. i chickened out when i got to see michelle, but other people took stuff, and she signed it. mostly i am very good about following rules. but.....

still hoping to get the actual authors sig. i suspect i will get my chance.
even if i have to volunteer at the library to get it.

I live in a blue state, not much chance the president will come here. *sigh*

As for drinks, I'll stick to coffee, am celebrating five years sober today.

been looking at my situation, and you know, i get paid for nothing that i do.
so, the fact the my right arm is more trouble than it is worth, and my spine is a mass of bulges, doesnt mean i am disabled. cuz, you know, that only counts for money.
the fact that dh and i have paid max ss every year for the past 20 years means, zip.

good thing i dont really care about that shit.
we lost so much when women were forced into the labor market. i am so glad that i do the work i do without a boss to answer to. or a bottom line.

my sister, who i havent spoken to in a long time, came up to see the farm for the first time.
her biggest question-"how are you going to make any money with this idea of yours?"
sheesh. good for 10 more years, i think.
