Free Comic Book Day 2014

Did anyone else make out to an event today?

Comics are one of the more American creations out there and it's had an interesting impact overall in the world and in so many cultures.

If you have a local shop nearby, check 'em out today, grab some free books, try some $1 books and explore outside the norm a bit. Especially since so many non-superhero titles are being adapted into TV and movies.

I didn't ask him, as he now lives in California and I'm in Europe, so we have a 9 hour time difference while I'm here, but even though he's 91 now, he used to write a lot of the comics that are now considered iconic in some circles:

The guy in the middle is Gil, his legal and tax guru. We always get together whenever I'm in L.A. The last time we met up, we set the date for July 31, and to confirm, he emailed back: "July 31, a date which will live infamy." I told I sure as hell hoped so.

Recently I told him I was redoing some nursery rhymes for a stand-up guest thing, and he contributed this limerick:

Jack and Jill
Went up the hill
To do some things they shouldn't
But when they got
To the perfect spot
They forgot the viagra and couldn't

He hasn't lost it, that's for sure!
