I think you pretty much have to ignore the Big Two, accepting that they're in a class by themselves. Apart from them--which city has the most enchanting downtown, day or night? After careful consideration, my vote goes to Pittsburgh. To look at the skyline come alive in the evening, from PNC park, as day turns to night...the confluence (I love that word!) of the three rivers...it's just magical. Any other nominees?

(149,562 posts)Of course, it's best in the winter......which is when I took this one.
The storms clear the air, and then .....well, it's wonderful!
Glad you enjoyed it!

(19,459 posts)The San Bernardino mountains are beautiful, but there are days when you wouldn't know they are there.

(10,558 posts)Neither the Seattle skyline photo nor this photo are mine but here is what it looks like from nearby Yelm. I keep promising myself to take some photos of Rainier from the highway near my home and post them here. Some days the trip from the store in Yelm back to my house is pretty darn nice.

(4,858 posts)...and was struck, like my OP said, by the beauty of its skyline...but also by the fact that the air was so clear and clean...it wasn't like *that* in the 1960s...:-/...and also because I was walking in the Strip district, and I looked up--and here was this *mountain* looming right above me, right in the middle of the damned city, and I realized I had fallen in love with this town...

(153,138 posts)I remember being very surprised the first time I saw it.........Pittsburgh has a reputation of being such a GRITTY CITY but hoo boy does that skyline shine
adding that Pennsylvania is still my all-time state for work TDYs - loved the people there - very down to earth, no-nonsense folk

But it is a beautiful city-- I've always thought so.
