or 8. Santa Clause was a woman named Miz Clause. I was one of the three helpers. We broke out into Helen Reddy's "I Am Woman Hear Me Roar" in the middle of the production. LOL! It was the 1970s.

(21,925 posts)It was a Christmas show on the U.S. Air Force base in Wiesbaden, West Germany where my dad was stationed and the base school's 3rd grade teacher ordered me to learn the words and melody of the German carol Ihr Kinderlein Kommet ("Oh Come Little Children" . It didn't bother me at all at that age and I had fun; I was afraid of nothing when I was a little kid. My voice wasn't that bad, either. Unfortunately my voice changed a few years later and didn't have the same purity, range, or power and singing in front of people made me shy. The carol became one of my favs for Christmas ever since.

My lines were something like this "You're knocked up, Mary. Here is a great story you can tell Joseph."

(11,358 posts)... as was usual for me I had a very small part, with just a few words of dialog. One of the other kids, who had a similar part was out sick the day of the play, so I did her part too. I had probably six whole words to say on stage - my personal record!

(12,132 posts)Bye Bye Birdie. My last onstage role until being the Emcee of the Gong Show when I was a senior in High School.
I was in 7th and 8th grade choir but I couldn't really sing. They just let anyone in. But that came in handy for the Harvey Johnson part.

(34,131 posts)She covered a box with brown flannel, made a stuffed horse's head and neck on the front, pants of the same stuff for me. Then there was a little fake saddle and people legs hanging down, so it looked like my upper half was the rider on a brown horse.
Sort of like this but with the rider's legs hanging down:

From what I remember and what relatives have told me it was cute as hell - but Dad wasn't there with his camera so I have no pictures of it.

(34,042 posts)then, 7th grade i did a monologue i wrote for drama class.
i had a lot of them in tears, including the teacher--it was wonderful!
i knew then that i was not only a very good actor--i was also a very good writer.

(46,436 posts)I had it so memorized, but froze up on stage when I saw everyone out in the audience. I ran off the stage crying and felt awful and so embarrassed, but the sixth-grade boy I had a crush on at the time (Skeeter Perkins, bless you) was off stage and hugged me so I wouldn't feel so bad.
I've never gotten over my fear of speaking in public.
