The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsSteve Buscemi appreciation thread. Who else is a big fan of this talented actor?
The guy is just an acting powerhouse and by far one of the most talented American actors we have today. Because of his unconvential looks he doesn't get the big leading romantic roles that make the girls swoon.
But the guy has some mad skills that are so good that he can take an absolutely wretchedly done movie like "Con Air" or "Armageddon" and make it a cult classic just from his talent alone. Personally I thought Buscemi was so creepily good in "Con Air" that he should have gotten an oscar nomination - he really did look and act like a creepy serial killer and the best scenes in this otherwise bad Nicolas Cage movie was all owned by Buscemi.
But it's just not turning around bad movies, you put him in a good movie his prescense will just enhance the movie. Some of his best parts in top notch movies include "The Big Leibowski" and "Fargo" - amazing movies where he just made great movies even better.
I will say this much, I have tried watching "Boardwalk Empire" (HBO TV show). He is amazingly good in it (has won awards) but I'm not much for gangster tv shows.
Anyhow post here your favorite Steve Buscemi movie!!!

(3,998 posts)I think my faves are Ghost World and Tree's Lounge. I think he is adorable, but I don't go for the traditionally good looking types like Pitt and Clooney

(66,316 posts)Love the way he worked with his old fire company on September 11th.
Mrs. Aristus thinks that when you can't see his snaggle teeth, that he's actually quite handsome.
I don't agree, but she thinks I'm handsome, too, so I don't argue...

(22,000 posts)Maybe because he has a small part or is not a lead character. I haven't seen Boardwalk Empire, but would probably be willing to try it. I rotate my shows as ones either get canceled or the story lines are not good anymore.

(53,410 posts)The way he explains the reality of the real world to two clones is just great.
Young man clone asks, "God? Who is God?"
Buscemi, to himself, "Why do I have to be the one to tell people there is no Santa Clause?"
Buscemi to Young man clone, "You know when you ask for something you want? Well God is the one who ignores you."
End of conversation.
Classic Buscemi. Sometimes I wonder if he writes his own lines.
